NLP {NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING} PART 1

UNDERSTANDING BRAIN, LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOR.

Neuro Linguistic  Programming [NLP] is an art and science of how people change their lives. It is a behavioural science and technology.

It is a set of principles, attitudes and technologies which will guide people how to eliminate undesirable behaviours and adopt new purposeful behaviours that will give them the ability to enjoy physical, mental and emotional states of well-being. It is about how people become successful in what they do- how they achieve the results they want and improve the quality of life.”

NLP was developed in the mid 1970s by Richard Bandler, {Mathematician and information scientist] and Jhon grinder [Assistant professor of Linguistics at the university of California}

NLP deals with the Structure of human subjective experience. The 3 components involved in human experience are neurology, language and observable patterns of behaviour [programming] NLP explores the relationship between these 3 components.

NLP studies how we organize our thoughts and what meaning we give to our thoughts that produce our emotions and moods [neuro] and how we express them verbally and non-verbally [linguistics] and how these two together produce our behaviour [programming] both conscious and unconscious.

Neuro  refers to the nervous system. Our brain receives information from external world through the nervous system and five senses. This information is filtered, processed, edited, translated and stored into thought processes, both conscious and unconscious. Thoughts processes activate neurological system which effects emotions, physiology and behaviour. Body and mind form an inseparable unity in human being.

Thus, ’neuro’ is all about how we think and how we process our thoughts – how our values, beliefs ,memories and other meta programmes that are already stored inside influence our process of thinking – and what meaning we give to what goes on inside and how that creates our emotional states. Different people give different meaning to the same event. This is because of neurological filters [deletion, distortion and generalization].

Linguistic- Linguistics refers to both verbal and non –verbal through which we communicate to represent what’s stored inside. It is how we communicate our thoughts, conscious and unconscious, to ourselves, to other people and the world around us. Linguistics is the study of what we speak and more important how we speak can influence our experience.

Programming- means that our thoughts, beliefs and actions are nothing but habitual programmes or “mental softwares” which can be easily accessed, changed or upgraded. There is a consistency in which we think and behave.

Our programming consists of our internal processes and strategies, with which we make decisions, solve problems, learn, evaluate and get results. NLP deals with how we can recode our experience and organize their internal programmes so that we get the outcomes we want.

Our experience is processed, coded, transformed and stored just like soft wares or programmes. These mental soft wares or programmes determine our thinking and behaviour. By deleting or upgrading our mental softwares or programmes we change how we think and as a result, how we act and behave.

Medical science acknowledges the fact that nearly 80% of all diseases are psychosomatic in nature. Psycho means mind and soma means body. When we change the internal representation, map, mental software or structure of experience [psycho] we heal our bodies [soma] . NLP believes mind and body are parts of the same system. Medical science and most therapies look at the behaviour [Physical response or symptoms] as the problem. Cure is in the mind, not in the body!

NLP is communication science and modelling science. NLP teaches how to duplicate excellence. By studying the structure of subjective experience of successful individuals and organisations you can achieve the same resultsThis process is known as modelling in NLP.

NLP is the most comprehensive synthesis of psychological knowledge today. It’s widely used in business, management, sales, education, law, sports, coaching and teaching. NLP is a profound set of tools for personal development.
